After a long period of inactivity as far performances go, we are a finally ready to present the band in it’s new form…accoustiphonically that is.

At 5pm on Sunday the 29th of January we be playing our first live gig at Cafe Daan & Daans in Amsterdam, Kattenburgerplein 39. Hope to see you all there !!

Bajesdorp Festival

Whittlesea will be performing again at the Festival of unplugged music at Bajesdorp village in Amsterdam.

The festival kicks off at 2pm on Saturday the 7th of May. Paul will be playing together with Frank on accordion and keyboard, and with Martin on cello. Whittlesea onstage at 7 pm.

Yet Another Update

Now that we have already debuted Frank onstage as a new member of the Whittlesea tribe, it seemed fitting that he should also take on his cartoon form. The website has been updated accordingly, check out Frank via the band page on the site. He’s the one hiding at the back…

And a Happy New Year to you all !! And of course, time we did some updates to the site.

It’s been a long time coming, but finally we are overjoyed to present some video footage of the band in full flight (well kind of). Our friends at Live Amsterdam have recently uploaded some of their recordings to YouTube. Just go to the video page on our website and check us out in the pre-HD era performing in the Melkweg Theatre in Amsterdam ! Enjoy !

Also, with the addition of a new band member in the closing months of last year, we felt he should also join the web party. More info about Frank can be found by clicking on Paul’s hat on the band page.

Desperate Hours in de Buurvrouw

Whittlesea will be the musical accompaniment to the underground soap-opera “Desperate Hours” which is filmed live every Thursday in the Buurvrouw in Amsterdam. The soap-opera kicks off at about 8pm and places are limited, so if you want to be part of it then be on time. More info about the show can be found here and previously recorded episodes can be found here.

Whittlesea will perform at the conclusion of the show and should be onstage by about 10pm.

Footnote on a Peaceful Demonstration

Well, I’m pleased to announce that ‘t Blijfertje will remain.

It appears that the Lord Mayor of Amsterdam was a little quick in ordering the evacuation of a certain number of squatted residences in the east of the city. Legally, the residents have have every right to stay where they are and are not obliged to move out. So I guess this will be one for the law courts.

On a lighter note, even though the Riot Police were cruising the neighbourhood looking for something to do, it seems that all the musical contributions added to the already peaceful festivities and no major altercations occurred. Long live the revolution, I guess you can say !!

‘t Blijfertje Peaceful Demonstration

Paul will be playing a few songs to support the efforts of the residents of the squat ” ‘t Blijfertje” in defending their rights to a place to live after the Amsterdam Lord Mayor has decided to evict them ASAP. Below an excerpt regarding the situation:

Up-coming Tuesday, 9 Nov, the police has announced to evict 10 squats. Bajesdorp is not on the list, but ‘t Blijvertje is! Check the whole list at http://indymedia.nl/nl/2010/11/70921.shtml

Many actions are being planned for ’t Blijvertje, all on a common NON-VIOLENT platform. One initiative is to make a big party in the street outside the whole day long; balloons and garlands in the street lamps, musician playing, people dancing, clowns juggling….

The idea is to make a sweet, happy atmosphere, and thereby create an absurd picture of the police breaking into some kind of happy birthday party.

Paul will be onstage after about 9pm, so come along and show your support.

New Addition

After a long and intensive search we are proud to announce a new addition to our group of happy campers. As of this week Frank van Schagen has officially taken on the role of multi-instrumentalist within the group, and we hope with his help to expand on our ever-developing sound. So expect to hear more rattling organs, hissing accordions and other strange noises emitting from within our midst in the near future.
